SUPPORT THE STATE OF RURAL WOMEN AND GIRLS PROGRAMME (2026–2029)

Empowered-to-Empower (E2E) Initiative

ECOSOC Consultative Status NGO | Nigeria

WHY THIS MATTERS

Across rural communities in Nigeria, women and girls continue to face deep and interconnected barriers to survival and development.

Our latest community evidence from Wasa Community, FCT (2026) reveals:

  • Girls miss school for up to 4–5 days during menstruation
  • Women and girls depend on unsafe stream water for daily survival
  • Livelihoods are seasonal, informal, and financially insecure
  • There are no functional women’s cooperatives or support systems
  • Schools face teacher shortages and weak learning outcomes

These are not isolated challenges, they reflect a broader structural inequality affecting rural women and girls.

Without urgent investment, these cycles of poverty, exclusion, and limited opportunity will continue across generations.

OUR RESPONSE: THE STATE OF RURAL WOMEN AND GIRLS PROGRAMME

E2E Initiative is implementing a 3-year integrated programme (2026–2029) to transform these realities through evidence-based, community-led interventions.

We focus on four strategic areas:

1. WOMEN’S ECONOMIC EMPOWERMENT

  • Skills training and entrepreneurship support
  • Women-led cooperatives
  • Financial literacy and savings groups
  • Market access support

2. GIRLS’ EDUCATION & LEADERSHIP

  • Scholarships and school support
  • Girls’ leadership clubs
  • Mentorship and career guidance
  • STEM and life skills training

3. WATER, SANITATION & HYGIENE (WASH)

  • Community boreholes and water systems
  • School WASH infrastructure
  • Menstrual hygiene management support
  • Reusable sanitary pad initiatives

4. POLICY, ADVOCACY & ECOSOC ENGAGEMENT

  • Annual “State of Rural Women and Girls” report
  • Policy briefs for government and UN systems
  • CSW and HLPF engagement
  • Evidence-based advocacy at national and global levels

OUR IMPACT TARGETS (2026–2029)

With adequate support, we will reach:

  • 15,000+ women and girls directly
  • 500 women supported in livelihoods
  • 300 girls supported in education pathways
  • 15 community WASH interventions implemented
  • 5 women-led cooperatives established
  • 6 policy briefs and 6 UN submissions delivered
