The Centre for Social and Community Empowerment Initiative, an NGO, says it has disbursed N1 million to 75 less privileged women in Nasarawa local government area of Nasarawa state.
Mr Saidu Modibbo, the Executive Director of the NGO, made this known to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Nasarawa.
Modibbo said after the disbursement that the gesture was to give succour to the beneficiaries in order to improve their standard of living.
According to him, 50 women got N15,000 each, while 25 women got N10,000 each.
He explained that the organisation was established with the view of empowering communities, especially the less privileged in the society.
“This organisation was formed with the aim of empowering both women and youths through the provision of educational services, economic empowerment and sensitizing people to the dangers of some of deadly diseases such as HIV and Aids, among others,’’ said the director.
He enjoined the beneficiaries to use the fund judiciously in order to improve on their socio-economic conditions.
Modibbo restated the commitment of the organisation to continue to key into people oriented programmes in order to fight poverty, unemployment and boost the socio-economic development of the country.
Speaking to NAN, one of the beneficiaries, Mrs Salamatu Mohammed, thanked the NGO for the gesture and promised to use the funds to improve their socio-economic life.
