GREENAIJA Movement: Gender-Responsive Climate and Environmental Justice Action for Women and Girls

Gender-Responsive Climate and Environmental Justice Action (GREENAIJA) is a flagship advocacy movement of the Empowered to Empower the Less Privileged Women Initiative (E2E Initiative) dedicated to advancing women’s rights and leadership at the center of climate and environmental justice in Nigeria. Rooted in the conviction that sustainable development is impossible without gender equality, GREENAIJA promotes inclusive environmental governance, empowers women as agents of change, and champions their right to live in safe, resilient, and sustainable communities.

Through a blend of advocacy, education, and community mobilization, GREENAIJA amplifies the voices of rural and marginalized women and girls, equipping them with knowledge, leadership capacity, and digital literacy to engage effectively in environmental decision-making. The movement uses AI-integrated grassroots climate adaptation tools—including early warning systems, data-driven training hubs, and participatory mapping—to help communities predict, respond to, and mitigate the effects of climate change. This approach enhances women’s influence in environmental policy spaces and strengthens their role as defenders of human rights and climate justice.

Beyond advocacy, GREENAIJA also drives economic empowerment as a pillar for climate resilience. The initiative provides green-skills training, supports women-led eco-enterprises, and promotes sustainable livelihoods through climate-smart agriculture, recycling innovations, and renewable energy projects. By integrating technology, business mentorship, and access to micro-grants, GREENAIJA enables women to transition from climate vulnerability to economic independence and environmental leadership.

By linking gender equality, human rights, and technology-driven climate resilience, GREENAIJA is nurturing a new generation of women who are not only protecting the planet but transforming their communities. Together, they are shaping a just, inclusive, and sustainable future for Nigeria and sub-Saharan Africa.
